I often have coffee at a local trattoria called Pomodori e Baci. The owner, Ivano, sometimes dismisses my efforts to pay with a smile and brush of the hand. Ivano is a prolific reader. So last week I gave him a copy of my book, You Bet: The Betfair Story - how two men changed the world of gambling. Is this an example of how, in tough economic times, the barter economy thrives?
