Tomorrow my book, You Bet: The Betfair Story, is published. I was in at Harper Collins signing copies yesterday. They will go in the post later. Strange to be in an office for the day. It has been over ten years. Strangest of all to be seated in an office previously occupied by the department head, made redundant this month, who had previously been working on publicity for the book. Empty picture frames and a computer that said all day that only the erstwhile resident could access programmes and database. I was reminded of this by a flashing screen, every time I jogged the mouse accidently. A corporate ghost almost. A little spooky. The remaining and formidable Harper Collins publicity and marketing department - Anna, Juliette et al - was very patient throughout the day. During a quiet moment there was speculation as to whether anyone could jump over the pile of books in envelopes ready for despatch. The answer is, yes. But I was at college with a bloke who could clear a Mini from standing start, so hurdling a few mail shots was hardly impressive to me, girls!
