For my 30th birthday I was given an engraved, classic IM Corona lighter. After a decade of perfect service, the flint mechanism recently packed up. In such circumstances, I would normally go to the basement at Harrods where a kiosk would take custody of anything like this malfunctioning and restore the piece to working order. But the regime there closed this outpost of craftsmanship down. So instead I tried Edward Sahakian's  Davidoff shop on St James's Street. There I was given a business card for a specialist in Warwickshire. Except the speciality in this case turned out to be pipe lighters. Nevertheless, I was redirected to Salt Tobacconists in Coventry. After posting the lighter to them, I have since received an invoice requesting that I indicate whether I would like to pay £16.50 to have the repair completed. Of course (and with much thanks and with no little relief). Not only is my lighter now going to be repaired, my faith in artisans is also restored.
