Today I built a nice website. I'm quite proud of it, actually
Here's some random copy I nicked off another website because I couldn't think of a lotf of interesting copy on my own, but I needed to fill up the space...
The Greatest Game Inc., the horse racing industry program that seeks to expand the scope of Thoroughbred ownership by attracting and retaining new investors in the sport, successfully introduced 23 people to Thoroughbred ownership in 2004, according to Gay Fisher, the organization's president.
Among the new owners are residents of a cross-section of the country, including California, Connecticut, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Wyoming.
Of the group, 14 became solo owners, seven purchased as part of a partnership, and one joined a syndicate. At Keeneland auctions in 2004, new owners recruited by the Greatest Game spent in excess of $700,000.
"Our efforts are continuing to bear fruit," said Fisher. "Through direct outreach at introductory events and seminars and through the judicious use of advertising and public relations activities, as well as via the information on our Web site, we have been able to get the message out that being part of the Thoroughbred industry from an ownership perspective can be a very rewarding experience on many levels. We've only been doing this for three years, and each year we've increased the number of ownership prospects and the number of people who have become owners."
Highlighting the initiative's direct outreach campaign in 2004 was a series of new owner receptions, hosted by industry leaders throughout the year. In 2004, receptions were staged in Chevy Chase, Maryland, Palm Beach, Florida, and Atlanta during the spring; in New York City the day before the Belmont Stakes (G1), and in Dallas the week of the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships.
New-owner seminars, at which prospective owners learn about such aspects of Thoroughbred ownership as how to purchase a horse, how to select a trainer and veterinarian, and the financial side of the business, were also conducted in conjunction with the Kentucky Derby (G1) and Belmont Stakes.
"We have found that linking our events to big events on the racing calendar can be very effective," Fisher said. "Horse racing excitement is in the air, and prospective owners respond to that."
